The Dyeing Suitor1

Dyeing Your Hair Will Not Better Your Case

(From the Historia Augusta)

When [Hadrian] had refused a request to a certain grey-haired man, and the man repeated the request but this time with dyed hair, Hadrian replied: "I have already refused this to your father."

Cum cuidam canescenti quiddam negasset [Hadrianus], eidem iterum petenti sed infecto capite respondit: "Iam hoc patri tuo negavi".
